Hey Ali, what did you do during the period where you were 17-18 to optimize your hormone production? I’m seventeen and I feel like a late bloomer. I’m pretty thin, at 138 lbs, I’m a 5’8 African American, and my shoulders are about 41 inches around. I want to optimize my hormones in order to hit the maximum height for my genetic potential, grower bigger everywhere, develop a more masculine face ( chisleled jawline, wide jaw, course features, etc). Do you have your personal journal in the form of an article anywhere on the site (Kind of new to the site)? Also, I start a strength program. I’m lifting with my schools football team for 30 mins before soccer practice, but soon I will have a gym membership and do starting strength or Greyskull LP.
Other causes for drops in testosterone include illness, from the seasonal flu to significant diseases like diabetes or cancer, since the body’s need to conserve energy often reduces the need to produce sperm or have sex. Some research points to seasonal sources of spikes and surges in testosterone, particularly in countries that experience longer than usual light and dark cycles, like Finland or Norway, where testosterone levels bottom out in summer and reach a high in late fall. Eating disorders and lack of sleep can also effect testosterone levels and sperm production.
Men tend to agree strongly about which voices are attractive, says psychologist Susan Hughes of Albright College. But, she says, men have trouble pinpointing exactly what makes them swoon. She and other researchers have looked at what's called "formant dispersion." Our voices each have a variety of "formants" — different frequencies that we regularly hit while we speak. Formant dispersion describes whether our usual frequencies are spaced closely together (a shrill or monotone voice) or far apart (an NPR host). The broader the range, the "fuller" the voice.
